Alteration of name

 

Alterations of name(s) may be done in existing passports of Sri Lankan nationals provided that the name(s) in the birth certificate has/have been altered in accordance with the birth registration regulations of Sri Lanka. Those birth certificates must be certified by the Consular Division of the Ministry of External Affairs, Colombo. Any Female applicant using name of her husband after marriage and who wish to include it in her passport should fulfill the following formalities;

  1. Original or notarized copy of marriage certificate issued in Sri Lanka or in a Foreign Country with two photocopies. 
  2. The marriage certificate should be certified by the Consular Division of the Ministry of External Affairs, Colombo. If the marriage has been registered outside Sri Lanka, the                           Marriage Certificate should be countersigned by the diplomatic representation of the respective country.
  3. Passports of both husband and wife with two photocopies of details pages
  4. Valid original Resident Permit
