Buddhi K. Athauda, Ambassador of Sri Lanka to France with concurrent accreditation to the Principality of Andorra presented credentials to His Excellency, Joan Enric Vives I Sicilia of the Principality of Andorra on 6th November 2018 at a grand ceremony held at the Episcopal Palace Headquarters of the Co prince, in La Seu d’Urgell, Andorra.
During the cordial one on one discussion that ensued, Ambassador Athauda extended greetings of President Maithripala Sirisena to His Excellency, Joan Enric Vives I Sicilia and apprised him of the progress made by Sri Lanka in the political and economic fronts. He further briefed the Co prince of the initiated efforts of the new government to further strengthen, nurture and preserve democracy, fundamental rights, human rights and media freedom and to give priority to reconciliation while creating a conducive environment to boost trade, investment and tourism.
In response, His Excellency, Joan Enric Vives I Sicilia conveyed that Andorra and Sri Lanka share greater affinities as small nations where tourism plays a significant role in the economic development. He also expressed his fondness of Sri Lanka and affirmed his support for greater cooperation between the two countries, particularly in the fields of tourism and banking.
H.E the Ambassador also had meetings with Ms. Maria Ubach, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Andorra and Mr. Ramon Ginesta, Vice President of the Chamber of Commerce of Andorra. During his meeting with the Andorra Chamber of Commerce, he also met with the Heads of the Hotel Association, the Association of Andorran Banks and Shopping Malls Association in Andorra.
His Excellency, Joan Enric Vives I Sicilia, hosted the Ambassadors who presented credentials to a dinner, upon the conclusion of the formal ceremony.
