The staff of the Embassy of Sri Lanka in France commenced work in the New Year on 1 January 2026 with a simple ceremony. Following the raising of the National Flag and lighting of the traditional oil lamp, a two-minutes’ silence was observed to commemorate those who lost their lives in Cyclone Ditwah, and to commemorate members of the tri-forces, war heroes and all those who sacrificed their lives on behalf of the Motherland. The Oath of Public Servants was read out in the Sinhala and Tamil languages.
The Ambassador Manisha Gunasekera in her remarks reiterated the call of President Anura Kumara Dissanayake for all Sri Lankans, including the overseas communities, to unite to rebuild the nation in the aftermath of the recent natural disaster. She also highlighted the New Year message of the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Foreign Employment and Tourism Vijitha Herath who extended his deep gratitude to overseas Sri Lankans, including the community in France, as well as to the friendly nations of the world, for the support and solidarity extended towards rebuilding the nation in the aftermath
The Ambassador also extended her deep appreciation and gratitude to each and every member of the Embassy staff for their commitment and hard work in the past year which has contributed tangibly towards the consolidation of Sri Lanka – France relations.
The ceremony concluded with all staff participating in a traditional Sri Lankan breakfast comprising kiribath, traditional sweet meats and Ceylon tea, thus heralding the New Year. Country Manager, France of SriLankan Airlines Asiri Wickramasuriya also participated in the ceremony.

Le personnel de l'ambassade du Sri Lanka en France a commencé ses activités pour la nouvelle année le 1er janvier 2026 lors d'une cérémonie simple. Après le lever du drapeau national et l'allumage de la lampe à huile traditionnelle, deux minutes de silence ont été observées en mémoire des personnes qui ont perdu la vie lors du cyclone Ditwah, ainsi que des membres des trois forces armées, des héros de guerre et de tous ceux qui ont sacrifié leur vie pour la patrie. Le serment des fonctionnaires a été lu en cingalais et en tamoul.
Dans son discours, l'ambassadrice Manisha Gunasekera a réitéré l'appel lancé par le président Anura Kumara Dissanayake à tous les Sri Lankais, y compris les communautés d'outre-mer, à s'unir pour reconstruire la nation après la récente catastrophe naturelle. Elle a également souligné le message du Nouvel An du ministre des Affaires étrangères, de l'Emploi à l'étranger et du Tourisme, Vijitha Herath, qui a exprimé sa profonde gratitude aux Sri Lankais de l'étranger, y compris la communauté en France, ainsi qu'aux nations amies du monde entier, pour leur soutien et leur solidarité envers la reconstruction du pays après la catastrophe.
L'ambassadrice a également exprimé sa profonde reconnaissance et sa gratitude à chacun des membres du personnel de l'ambassade pour leur engagement et leur travail acharné au cours de l'année écoulée, qui ont contribué de manière tangible à la consolidation des relations entre le Sri Lanka et la France.
La cérémonie s'est terminée par un petit-déjeuner traditionnel sri-lankais composé de kiribath, de pâtisseries traditionnelles et de thé de Ceylan, auquel tout le personnel a participé, annonçant ainsi la nouvelle année. Le directeur national de SriLankan Airlines pour la France, Asiri Wickramasuriya, a également participé à la cérémonie.
